Lisa Thorpe

I am a mixed media fiber artist and educator based in Little Rock, Arkansas.

My visual work is idea and story driven and often connected to words and writing. The art I create is both personal and universal. Driven to pique and poke and ponder, I hope my work invites discussion and discovery and as an educator I like participates in forums to explore and explain my work within the context of feminist, spiritual and environmental themes.

Over the years I have explored many mediums, currently my focus is on fabric art. Dyeing, printing and marking my own fabric to create art quilts. I am drawn to the use of fabric and stitch as a reference the tradition of stitch as a feminine art that clothes and covers and comforts.

Our program will be: Surface Design Sampler Trunk Show

Techniques will include Monotype Printing, Marbling Fabric, and Stamp Carving. Discussion on how these can be used in quilting.

Workshop will be: Marbling on Fabric

Marbling on Fabric: 3-hour workshop This is an amazingly fun technique full of play and wonderful unexpected results. Marbled prints are created by floating fluid acrylics on thickened water and then the alum treated cotton is floated on the top and voila la! Each participant will make up to ten 8×12″ marbled panels. I guarantee you will love this process. The marbling workshop has lot’s of prep so the materials fee is larger than the other 3 hour workshops and also requires a work space with a large sink. Class fee: $20.00 Kit fee: $25.00
